NO, WE DON’T RECALL!
Just as it was important to oppose Governor Newsom’s recall, it is equally important to oppose the SF School Board Recall. These two recalls have one thing in common: they are attempts to short-circuit the democratic process with big money. Across the country, right-wingers are attacking school boards; over half of the signatures to qualify for the ballot were gathered by people paid as much as $22 per signature, many of whom came from out of state.
The current office holders were elected into their positions which expire in 9 months. If the recalls are successful, you will not choose their replacements, Mayor Breed will. That doesn’t sound like democracy!
The recall began in California in 1911 during the Progressive Era to remove corrupt politicians paid off by the Southern Pacific Railroad, the powerful monopoly that paid politicians to get its way. It should not be used to remove politicians for their policies; that’s what elections are for.
Send a strong message that you believe in democracy by voting to oppose the recalls of all three School Board members.
David Campos for Assembly District 17
We are proud to endorse David Campos once again, this time for Assembly District 17. As a bold champion of Bernie’s presidential runs in both 2016 and 2020, David has a long history of fighting for affordable housing, Healthy SF, CleanPowerSF, and equal pay for equal work during his time as District 9 Supervisor. Having entered the U.S. as an undocumented child carrying his sister on his back, he cemented SF’s status as a sanctuary city, helped secure funding for the San Francisco Immigrant Legal Defense Collaborative, and worked with SFUSD to desegregate our schools.
David will be a strong advocate for universal healthcare in California (CalCare), a California Green New Deal, and affordable housing.
In addition, we are concerned about Mayor Breed being able to appoint the next SF District 6 Supervisor should Matt Haney win the Assembly District 17 seat.
